Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The State Patrol responded to two fatal crashes on Friday and alcohol use is listed in both crash reports.

The most recent involved two motorcycles and occurred in the Brainerd lakes area. The crash report says a 55-year-old Grand Rapids man was fatally injured around 7:30 pm when the motorcycle he was operating rear-ended another motorcycle driven by a 63-year-old Grand Rapids man after he was forced to hit the breaks while riding on Highway 210 between Brainerd and Crosby. The other motorcyclist escaped the crash with only minor injuries.

The other fatality was reported just before 5 pm in a rural area about 25 miles southwest of St. Cloud. The State Patrol says the victim, 57-year-old Steven Schmidt of Atwater, was a passenger in a minivan that collided with a semi-truck at an intersection north of the town of Grove City in Meeker County.

The State Patrol says the driver of the minivan, who had alcohol in his system, caused the crash by going through a stop sign. The crash report also notes the man killed in the collision was not wearing a seatbelt.
