Balsam Lake, WI (MNN) - A St. Paul teenager drowned Sunday afternoon in the St. Croix River.

The Polk County Wisconsin Sheriff’s Department says the body of 14-year-old Taw Meh was recovered on the Wisconsin side of the river several hours after authorities responded to reports of a possible drowning at Interstate State Park near Taylor Falls. Officials say the teenage girl was canoeing with a family member and friends when they stopped at a sandbar and she was swept away by the strong current when she walked out into the river.
