Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The National Weather Service wasn't kidding around when forecasters issued a wind advisory from 6 AM through 9 PM today.

Southeastern Minnesota has been raked by strong northwest winds all afternoon and some of the gusts were high enough that a severe storm warning might have been issued if a thunderstorm was the source. Most of the region experienced wind gusts ranging from 40-50 mph, while the Rochester area was hit by even stronger winds.

The highest gust reported to the National Weather Service was 59-miles per hour at around 1:45 this afternoon by the Rochester Airport weather station. There was also a 54 mile-per-hour gust recorded at the Mayo One helipad at St. Mary's Hospital just after 1 PM.
