Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A senior member of the Olmsted County Attorney’s office has announced his candidacy for the position.

Geoff Hjerleid formally announced his candidacy Monday morning and intends to make it official Tuesday when filings for elective office open.

Hjerleid has been with the Olmsted County Attorney’s office for 22 years, working on criminal and civil cases. He currently serves as the lead attorney and supervisor in the criminal division.

"It is time for real, substantive leadership in the County Attorney’s Office,” says Hjerleid. “I look forward to delivering measurable results and serving Olmsted County citizens as a respected and trusted partner in the community.”

He also emphasized the critical need for the County Attorney to form strong partnerships with law enforcement, public and private agencies, and the court system, to ensure public safety and better serve county residents.
