Organizers of Rochester’s Polar Plunge are busy getting ready for Saturday's event. And for the first time, early jumps are being offered due to expected frigid weather conditions.

Plunges for the 18th annual event at Foster-Arend Park are scheduled to begin at 1:30 Saturday afternoon - when the air temperature is expected to be just  a few degrees above zero and wind chill readings could be around 25 below.

With that in mind, plungers are being offered the opportunity to jump Friday evening - something that has never been done before. Early jumping will be offered from 6 - 7 p.m. Check-in is still required and those planning to jump this evening are asked to be there by 6 o’clock.

As of noon Friday, pledges for the event were approaching $150,000. Last year’s event raised more than $200,000 for the Minnesota Special Olympics and included nearly 900 plungers.
