Rochester to Seek Bids for New Parking Ramp
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Work could begin soon on Rochester’s newest downtown parking ramp.
The Rochester City Council is expected to act on a request to seek bids for the project at its Monday evening meeting.
City officials hope to award a bid for the project next month.
The current schedule calls for work to begin this spring and be completed in about a year. The estimated cost is in excess of $20-million. The ramp will add more than 600 spaces to the downtown, although some will be dedicated to the Hilton hotel now being constructed along Broadway. The ramp will be built on the east side of the hotel.
The city is asking bidders to include the cost of stronger footings that would allow the addition of a possible housing project that could be added to the ramp in the future.
The council is also scheduled to vote on two personnel matters.
One is a request to contract with a firm to conduct a national search for a new city administrator. Longtime administrator Steve Kvenvold plans to retire May 31st.
The council is also being asked to appoint a new city clerk. Former clerk Aaron Reeves was recently transferred to the administration department. If the council approves, Anissa Hollingshead is expected to begin her new job Feb 23. She currently works for the Minneapolis city clerk’s office.
