Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man described by local authorities as a career criminal is being given an opportunity to stay out of prison. 34-year-old Terry Heggs was sentenced this week in Olmsted County Court to settle four criminal cases that resulted in either guilty pleas or convictions on charges ranging from drug sales, to witness tampering and failing to register as a predatory offender.

Despite an extensive criminal history, Heggs was given stayed prison terms of up to 45-months. He was also ordered into a treatment program and placed on probation for 20-years. Heggs was arrested last summer following a series of drug busts in Rochester, which also led to charges of witness tampering, stalking and failing to register, which was a condition of his release from prison in August 2016.

His previous stint in prison stemmed from his conviction on charges connected to a shooting outside the old Aquarius bar in 2009, along with a sexual assault involving a 16-year-old girl and a drug bust in 2010.
