Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man accused of threatening a prominent local businessman has been found incompetent to face prosecution, at least for the time being. The determination was made by Olmsted County Judge Kathy Wallace after a review of a psychological evaluation that was ordered after his arrest last this month.

58-year-old Christopher Caffes was charged with two felony-level offenses after he allegedly threatened to attack the well-known business person with a knife. He even displayed a knife to another downtown business owner after making a comment about “sticking his knife into the back” of the victim, who has not been identified.

The businessman had earlier told police Caffes had left “weird messages” on his phone and that he took the threats “very seriously.” Caffes had also been charged with violating a court order to stay away from a family member who had previously allowed him to stay in a tent in that person’s backyard. The family member also told the court Caffes has a long history of mental illness and drug use.

At last check, Caffes was still being held in the Olmsted County Jail.
