Hibbing, MN (KROC AM News) -  A Rochester man remains in a Duluth hospital after being shot by police last Friday in Hibbing.

The incident began when police received a 911 call around 12:45 p.m. about a man with a gun.

Two officers arrived and spotted 24-year-old Che Nathaniel Jones outside the residence. The Minnesota BCA says the two officers ordered Jones to drop the gun but he fled on foot. As they began chasing him, the BCA says Jones allegedly pointed his gun at the officers and both fired their weapons.

No word on his medical condition.

The officers have been identified as Captain Kurt Metzig and Officer Cody Loewen. Metzig is a 19-year veteran with the Hibbing Police Department. Loewen has been with the Hibbing PD for three years. Both have been placed on standard administrative leave while the incident is investigated.

The BCA says a person who was injured prior to the officers’ arrival was taken to a Hibbing hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
