A Rochester man who caused a fatal traffic wreck in the city last year was sentenced to 57 months in prison Friday.

Sentenced was Gerald Mohs, who turned 58 last Saturday. Police say Mohs had a blood/alcohol level of .17 at the time of the head-on wreck that claimed the life of  9 year old William Siems of Plainview last September. The boy was a passenger in a car that was driven by his aunt, 29 year old Amber Bishop of Stewartville. Bishop and her 7 year old son were injured in the wreck, which happened near the Cub Foods store.

Mohs - who had been driving in the wrong lane - walked away and was spotted by a police officer about 2 hours later across town near the Shopko North store. Police say Mohs admitted he had been drinking all day. He had been without a driver's license since 1979.

Mohs pleaded guilty in October under what’s known as a Norgaard plea. That means he was too drunk to remember what happened but admits there is enough evidence for a conviction.

In addition to the prison sentence, Mohs was also ordered to pay restitution of $4,800.
