Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man was arrested Thursday night for DUI and authorities say he had his two young children with him.

Police were tipped off by the wife of 39-year-old Timothy Toppin, who said he had called to say he was stuck in a ditch and had no idea where he was.

Police were able to trace Toppin’s cell phone to a rural site near Stewartville and found him in the car with his kids, ages 2 and 4. Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Scott Behrns says Toppin told a deputy he had been driving back from Cresco, Iowa and decided to “show off” to his children by fishtailing his car. That’s when he ended up in the ditch.

Toppin was arrested on a suspicion of DUI and a test at the jail indicated he had a blood/alcohol level of .2.

His wife took the children home.
