Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A man who spent several hours in very cold weather dodging Rochester police officers last week later tried to make another escape.

Rochester police had been looking for 22-year-old Karlton Cannon since he was suspected of robbing a man of $2 earlier this month. Police learned he was at a northeast Rochester apartment last Monday night, but he fled on foot before he could be apprehended.

He spent about 6 hours in temperatures that fell to -10 degrees before he went to a woman’s residence and asked for help. Cannon was taken to St. Mary’s for treatment of hypothermia and frostbite and police kept him under a security watch.

Besides the local incident, he was also wanted on a federal warrant for a drug-related case. Federal marshals went to St. Mary’s last Friday to take him into custody but he was able to get away and fled on foot. A Rochester officer eventually caught Cannon and suffered a shoulder injury during the struggle.

Cannon is now in federal custody and is expected to face additional charges.
