Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  An employee of a Rochester convenience store was taken to St. Mary’s early Saturday after being assaulted during a robbery of the business.

The 58-year-old told police a masked man entered the Holiday station on 37th Street NW about 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning, jumped over the counter and began punching him in the face. After the employee was knocked to the ground, the thief grabbed the money in the till and fled on foot.

Although the thief did not show a weapon, police investigators say a surveillance video of the incident shows he may have had a knife or box cutter in one of his hands.

The employee was taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s for treatment of his injuries.
