Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester City Council was briefed Monday on the new senior center that is in the final stages of construction.

The council was told the new center - now known as 125 LIVE (1, 2, 5 live,  as in dive) - is scheduled to open November 1st, a month later than the earlier date. Staff is expected to begin operating from the center next month.

The council was told the center’s capital campaign remains a challenge. To date, the center has received a funding total of just over $1.1-million. That’s about half of the campaign goal. Staff estimates it will need $1.6-million for the new furniture and equipment for the center.

The council was also given a briefing on the programs that will be offered at the new center, as well as the membership options. The new center is connected to the Rec Center and includes a pool that is located between the two buildings and is already in use.  At the end of the meeting, the council toured the new building.

There will be a farewell party at the current site this Thursday (Sept 15) from 1 – 3pm.

Here are pictures of the tour.  There are several large rooms that will be used for meetings (the rooms can be rented by the public), art and other craft work, fitness and other recreational activities.
