Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Olmsted County will soon have a new judge to help deal with the ever-increasing number of court cases in Rochester.

The Minnesota Commission on Judicial selection today announced an upcoming judgeship vacancy in southeastern Minnesota, where Winona County Judge Jeffrey Thompson retired on April 13th. The person named to fill the position will be assigned to Olmsted County. The Minnesota Supreme Court recently approved a request to increase the number of judges serving in Olmsted County to seven, while two judges will be assigned to Winona County.

Persons interested in succeeding Judge Thompson must submit their applications by the end of the business day on May 23rd. The commission will hold candidate interviews on June 8th before submitting a list of finalists to Governor Mark Dayton for his consideration.

An attorney from the New Prague area has been chosen to fill a vacancy at the Wabasha County Courthouse. Governor Mark Dayton today appointed Christopher Neisen to succeed Wabasha County Judge Terrence Walters, who retired in March. Neisen a partner in a private law firm and serves as a Deputy Scott County Examiner of Titles. He also previously served as a First District Judicial Child Support Magistrate.
