Remains Found at Gooseberry Falls Were From Woman Missing 30 Years
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says the human remains discovered about a year ago at Gooseberry Falls State Park were from a Minneapolis woman who vanished 30 years ago.
Officials say BCA scientists used DNA testing to determine the remains belonged to Cassandra Rhines, who was 19-years-old when she went missing in June 1985. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.
Investigators say they believe the young woman may have been involved in prostitution around the time of her disappearance and may have worked as an exotic dancer. She was living in the Whittier Park area of Minneapolis and investigators are hoping to hear from people who knew Rhines or lived in the same area back in 1985 who might have information helpful to the investigation.
“Investigators need the public’s help to better understand who Cassandra Rhines knew and who may have sought to harm her,” said BCA Assistant Superintendent Drew Evans. “The clearer picture we have of the time when she disappeared, the better chance we have of finding out who killed her.”
