Rochester (KROC AM News) - The Rochester Park Board is scheduled to hold a special meeting today to act on a recommendation to award the Rec Center/Senior Center project to the Kraus-Anderson Construction Company.

It was one of three firms that submitted proposals for the long-planned project. It calls for a new Senior Center on the southwest corner of the Rec Center, which will be expanded and renovated.

The most recent budget for the project was put at $22.7 million, with the funds coming from the city sales tax. Staff says despite efforts to cut costs, the recommendation that will be considered by the Park Board today seeks another $1 million in funding to cover contingency and other expenses. The recommendation calls for using funds from a reserve account for capital projects to cover the extra cost.

If the board approves the recommendation today, it will be taken up by the City Council on Monday.

If the Council accepts the recommendation, work is expected to begin next month and the project is scheduled to be completed by the fall of next year.
