Undated (KROC AM News) - Protesters plan on being on Mille Lacs Lake when Gov. Mark Dayton goes bass fishing Saturday.

Walleye fishing, even catch and release, is prohibited on the lake next three weeks in effort to help grow the walleye population. The Department of Natural Resources is trying to protect the lake’s struggling walleye population from hooking mortality. The warm weather makes it difficult for walleyes to survive the catch and release process.

Dayton plans to set out from the Fisher’s Resort Saturday to promote Mille Lacs’ bass fishing opportunities. Some critics of how the state manages the lake’s walleyes are organizing a boat rally offshore from the resort, saying they want to send Dayton a peaceful message about how small businesses around the lake are struggling to survive, according to KSTP-TV.
