BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (AP) — Police have located the mother of a 3-year-old boy who was wearing only a diaper when he was found near a busy street in a Twin Cities suburb.

Brooklyn Park police were looking for the parents of the toddler who was found along West Broadway about 7:40 a.m. Thursday. Deputy Chief Mark Bruley says a passer-by called police after spotting the child alone.

Police located the boy's mother about five hours later. The Star Tribune reports a miscommunication in the family led to the boy wandering away.

Bruley says the boy "is healthy and doing well."

In a statement, police say the child will stay in protective custody while an investigation continues.
