Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester Park Board has given its blessing to supporters of a planned law enforcement memorial.

The board was briefed on the proposal Tuesday and gave its consensus to construct the memorial at Soldiers Field Park. In fact, it would be located just west of the Veterans Memorial.

Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson is one of the leaders of the project.

He told the board the project has been discussed for several years and it has always been hoped to locate the memorial at Soldiers Field Park.

Torgerson says the plan calls for a memorial that would represent all law enforcement agencies in southeast Minnesota. He says private funds will be used to build and maintain the memorial.

With the board’s approval, Torgerson says fundraising and formal planning can now move ahead. He envisions a 3-5 year timeline to complete the project.
