North Dakota beats Michigan 5-2 to reach Frozen Four.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Rhett Gardner broke a tie midway through the third period and North Dakota beat Michigan 5-2 on Saturday night in the NCAA Midwest Regional final to advance to the Frozen Four.

The Fighting Hawks (32-6-4) reached the Frozen Four for the third straight year and 22nd time overall. They won the last of their seven titles in 2000.

Luke Johnson, Drake Caggiula, Coltyn Sanderson and LaDue — into an empty net — also scored goals for North Dakota, and Cam Johnson made 23 saves.

JT Compher scored twice for Michigan (25-8-5).

In the semifinals Friday, North Dakota beat Northeastern 6-2, and Michigan topped Notre Dame 3-2 in overtime.

Boston College beats Minn.-Duluth 3-2 to reach Frozen Four

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Teddy Doherty scored two goals, Thatcher Demko made 26 saves and Boston College held off Minnesota-Duluth 3-2 on Saturday night in the NCAA Northeast Regional final to advance to the Frozen Four.

The Golden Eagles (28-7-5) reached their record 25th Frozen Four. They won the last of their five national titles in 2012.

Ryan Fitzgerald gave Boston College a 3-0 lead with 13:25 left when he beat Kasimir Kaskisuo with a wrister from the circle that went over the goalie's left shoulder.

The Bulldogs (19-16-5) got goals from Austin Farley and Karson Kuhlman late in the third period, but couldn't push across the equalizer despite a power play in the final minute.

Boston College will face the winner of the East final Sunday between Quinnipiac and Massachussets-Lowell on April 7 in the Frozen Four in Tampa, Florida.

VanWormer scores in OT, Ferris State advances in NCAA hockey

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Jared VanWormer scored at 18 seconds of overtime to give Ferris State a 5-4 victory over St. Cloud State on Saturday in the NCAA West Regional semifinals.

The Bulldogs (20-14-6) will face the Denver-Boston University winner for a spot in the Frozen Four in Tampa, Florida.

St. Cloud State (31-9-1) scored twice in the third period to force overtime. Mikey Eyssimont pulled the Huskies within one on a power play at 4:38 with his second goal of the game, and Joey Benik tied it with 8:31 to go.

VanWormer also scored in the first period. Mitch Maloney, Kenny Babinski and Gerald Mayhew added goals for the Bulldogs, and Darren Smith made 29 saves.

Jacob Benson also scored for St. Cloud State.
