Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester Honkers baseball team will  be under new ownership for the next Northwoods League baseball season. The Rochester Park Board today approved a resolution that authorizes the current owners of the Honkers to transfer the team’s lease agreement for Mayo Field to the new owners, identified as Bases Loaded Entertainment LLC, which has a minority ownership stake in the La Crosse Loggers Northwoods League franchise.

The Honkers have been owned by Kim Archer and Dan Litzinger since 2003. Litzinger has been with the Northwoods League franchise since 1994 and has been General Manager since 1997.

Reports indicate the two parties expect to finalize the sale of the team next week.

The Rochester Park Board is expected to vote today on a proposed name change for a city park. The Rochester MLK Community Action Group is seeking to have East Park near the Rochester Federal Medical Center named in honor of Martin Luther King Junior. The group says dedicating the park in the memory of the slain civil rights leader would reflect the community’s dedication to inclusion during this time of polarization and division.
