Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  It looks like a planned new hotel in downtown Rochester is still in the works.

A California company is proposing to purchase the American Legion property near Central Park and build a hotel on the site.

An earlier plan called for a 12 story building that would include commercial space. That part of the proposal has been removed. The new plan calls for a nine story building with 175 hotel rooms. Two of the floors would be set aside for parking.

Because the size of the project exceeds what is permitted in that part of the downtown, the developer would likely face an unknown number of conditions if it’s approved.

The project is scheduled to be presented to the city Planning and Zoning Commission next month.
