Wabasha, MN (KROC AM News) -There will soon be some noticeable truck traffic in Wabasha.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is getting ready to begin moving thousands of tons of dirt and rock.

The 300,000 cubic yards of material came from dredging the Mississippi River channel and has been stored at the Corps’ gravel pit. It will be moved a short distance away to the Wabasha Sand and Gravel pit on the west side of U.S. Highway 61 near the intersection of Highway 61 and Bruegger Valley Rd.

The Corps says truck hauling operations are expected to begin Nov. 26. The contractor intends to begin operating only during daylight hours, Monday through Friday.

But the trucks will begin 24-hour operations, five days per week in early December. The 24-hour operations will likely continue through mid-to-late February.

Trucking operations will be limited during the holidays.
