Duluth, MN (Learfield News Service) - We're learning more about the elderly Duluth couple found dead Saturday in northern Minnesota following an eight day search.

A Saint Louis County sheriff's investigator says Ron Tarnowski drove his SUV into a swamp near Brookston and got stuck while driving down an overgrown trail most likely used only by snowmobilers.

Sergeant Wade Rasch tells the Duluth News Tribune that Tarnowski, a retired Duluth firefighter, "undoubtedly went for help," as his body was found near a roadway while his wife Mary was found dead in their vehicle. Their bodies were discovered Saturday after they were reported missing July 29th.

Rasch said there were no signs of trauma or foul play.
