A fun, family-friendly, competitive (soon to be) staple in Rochester is coming back in 2018.

I first became aware of Med City FC last year, and caught a really fun game that ended up going into overtime! That's right! If you didn't know already - Rochester has an amazing soccer team. Their website explains, "Med City Football Club is an expansion franchise of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) and plays in the North Conference, which is one of three conferences in the league’s Midwest Region. The North Conference consists of teams from Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota."

I was thrilled to see that after an immensely successful inaugural season this year, the team is returning to Rochester in 2018. They'll be playing those teams from North and South Dakota, Wisconsin and right here in Minnesota soon.

General Manager Frank Spaeth is ready to see a new season too. He says, "We're excited to be able to offer more home games in 2018. We've already added one, and we're working on a home and away series with another team that might even include the chance to play for a trophy! We hope to announce more about that arrangement in mid-January."

If you've already seen the inaugural team and are wondering which players are set to return, Spaeth has an answer for that. He explains,

We've got around 15 players from last season returning to play with us again in 2018, but that means we need to find at least 10 new players who will compete as well, if not better, than the players we've lost. Our tryouts on February 17 are going to be vital to our success. Finding the right players in key areas will make all the difference for our 2018 season.

Wanna be the next Med City soccer star? Here's what that could look like!

As mentioned, the best part of these games is the family atmosphere.

Spaeth looks to encourage that again in the 2018 season, saying, "We're working with the youth soccer clubs in the area to offer their youth players free season passes again in 2018. We really want to give the youth a chance to come out and see high-level soccer right here in their own backyard. We also want to continue to become recognized as the community's team."

Rochester, this is for you. See you at the first game in May!
