Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede headed out to Washington. D.C. Tuesday morning for his recently announced visit to the White House.

The White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs invited Brede to join President Obama in the official welcoming of Pope Francis to the U.S.

The event is scheduled to take place Wednesday morning on the South Lawn of the White House.

When informed of the invitation, Brede called it a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity” but also said he was“puzzled and honored” that he was asked to take part in the event.

Brede will also attend an event at the White House Tuesday evening.
