Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Mayo Clinic has announced major expansion plans in Arizona and Florida while continuing the implementation of the massive Destination Medical Center initiative at its headquarters in Rochester.

Mayo today unveiled a five-year plan to nearly double the size of its campus in Scottsdale Arizona at a cost of almost $650 million. Officials say the Arizona Forward Project will add 1.4 million square feet of space to the existing 1.7 million square foot medical center. It’s estimated the expansion will create almost 2,000 new jobs over the next decade, with physicians filling nearly 200 of the new positions.

A news release indicates Mayo plans to have some of the new patient areas ready for use next summer, while the overall expansion project is slated for completion in 2023.

The Mayo Clinic also announced plans for a $144 million expansion of its medical center in Jacksonville, Florida. The project includes a new five-story medical building with 8 new operating rooms that is scheduled to be completed in 2021. Mayo also plans to add a 1000 space parking ramp to the Florida campus that should be ready for use in 2020.
