Mankato High School Student Found Dead in Field

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Authorities in southern Minnesota are treating the death of a 16-year-old girl whose body was found in a field as suspicious.

The Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office was called around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday about a car sitting in a field off of Highway 68 northwest of Mankato. A deputy found the unoccupied vehicle stuck in the mud and later found the unresponsive girl lying face down in the field. She was dead at the scene.

Authorities say the victim was a 16-year-old girl from New Ulm. The Free Press of Mankato reports Mankato Area Public School officials identify the girl as Hannah Oliva, a junior at Mankato West High School.

The Ramsey County medical examiner's office is conducting an autopsy. No arrests have been made.
