ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Authorities have identified a St. Paul man police shot and killed during a raid last week.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Ramsey County medical examiner's office says 29-year-old Eugene Francis Smith died in the raid.

According to the Police Department, officers entered Smith's home Thursday as part of an investigation. They shot a pit bull that charged them. Smith then opened fire on them. Officer Joshua Raichert returned fire, killing Smith.

The officers all are on administrative leave. Authorities didn't provide information about the kind of investigation they were conducting, although a police report shows officers had been at Smith's home last week and found suspected methamphetamine, marijuana and a rifle.

The incident was St. Paul's second fatal officer-involved shooting this month.
