Major Work Expected Next Year at Rochester’s Cascade Park

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Look for more extensive work at Rochester’s slowly evolving Cascade Lake Regional Park.

The city Park Board has approved a $2.3-million bid for the work, which is expected to begin next spring.

This will include:

- realigning one block of 23rd Ave SW beginning at Grandeville Road and creating an entrance road into the park
- paved parking for approximately 100 vehicles
- paved trails
- mass grading of the site, with stormwater quality improvements
- active and natural playground areas
- garden areas, including a shelter, arbor, paths, garden “rooms” with ornamental fencing, walls and benches, and plantings
- a new bridge and gateway from the Shorewood Senior Campus into the park
- a new bridge and gateway to replace the existing bridge on the eastern side of the park
- benches, picnic tables, waste/recycling receptacles, and bicycle racks

Much of the funding will come from two large grants (Greater Minnesota Parks and Trails Commission and the Wedum Foundation).
