Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Winona County Grand Jury has returned a first-degree murder indictment against a Lewiston man in a domestic violence case.

24-year-old Kyle Allers was previously charged with second degree murder in connection with the death of 24-year-old Tasha Hanson.

Winona County investigators found the Lewiston woman’s body in a wooded area east of Lewiston last May. They were operating on information provided by a family member of Allers, who told authorities the young man had indicated he killed Hanson and provided information on the location of her body.

An autopsy later determined that her death was caused by strangulation and blunt force head injuries.

The couple had two young children, who were placed in the care of a family member. Allers was formally arraigned Tuesday on the charges contained in the murder indictment.

His next court appearance is scheduled Thursday in Winona.
