Rochester, MN  ( KROC AM News) -  Despite recent headlines, the interim President of Rochester Community and technical College says the century-old institution remains a great place for higher learning.

Joyce Helens recently left her regular job as the President of St. Cloud Community and Technical College to take over the helm at RCTC following the resignation of Leslie McClellan. Helens is overseeing what she terms a realignment at the Rochester campus, which is something she says most organizations need periodically even if things are running smoothly.

RCTC garnered its share of negative publicity in the months preceding McClellan's resignation. Faculty and student groups went public with complaints about her leadership and decisions, particularly in cases where the recommendations of advisory groups were ignored in the hiring of administrative personnel.

Despite the many news reports and social media postings suggesting extensive turmoil, Helens says Rochester Community and the Technical College continues to enjoy solid financial and academic footings (hear her comments in the YouTube video at the top of this post).

She says a search is getting underway for a permanent RCTC President, and the plan is to have that person hired this summer and ready to report for work before the start of the fall semester.

Helens was a recent guest of Rich Peterson during the Rochester Good Morning Show on KROC-AM.
