Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man has admitted to a felony theft charge in connection with a shoplifting case that created quite a scene at Apache Mall in February.

45-year-old Mario Peterson also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge in the case. He was arrested after a security officer spotted Peterson at the shopping center and recognized him as a man who was suspected of shoplifting some expensive purses during an earlier visit to the Macy’s store. The security officer witnessed some more suspected shoplifting activity and called 911.

Rochester police say Peterson was involved in a struggle with security officers outside of the store and then ran through the mall with the officers in pursuit. He briefly exited the building before running back inside the JCPenney store where he was finally subdued by a police officer using a Taser.

Court records show Peterson was on probation for previous theft convictions at the time. He is scheduled to be sentenced for the most recent offenses on August 29th.
