St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Governor Mark Dayton has authorized State Disaster Assistance for six northern Minnesota counties and three tribal communities to help cover the cost of repairing the damage and cleaning up the mess caused by severe storms in July.  The thunderstorms delivered damaging winds and flooding over a three day period that resulted in significant expenses for removing debris.

The governor’s authorization will extend almost $3.3 million from the State Disaster Assistance Contingency Account to Aitkin, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Lake and St. Louis Counties, along with the Bois Forte, Fond du Lac, and Leech Lake Tribal Communities. About 60-percent of the assistance, or about $2 million, will be directed to St. Louis County.

The assistance will reimburse the local governments 75-percent of eligible costs for repairs to the public infrastructure and storm cleanup.
