Gophers Back in First in Big Ten Hockey
ANN ARBOR, MI – This time, the Minnesota Gophers jumped out to an early lead and held it in a convincing 4-1 victory of Michigan in Ann Arbor in a game heard on KROC-AM.
Tyler Sheehy scored twice and assisted on another to carry the Gophers to the win, which clinched a first-round bye in the Big Ten Tournament and reclaimed sole possession of first place with two games to play.
Sheehy now leads the Big Ten with 52 points on the year – the most in a season by a Gopher since Ryan Potulny had 63 during the 2005-06 season.
Rem Pitlick and Leon Bristedt also scored for the Gophers, Eric Schierhorn stopped 27 of 28 shots to move to 22-10-2 on the year.
Michigan (11-18-3, 4-12-2-2) got on the board at 16:23 of the second stanza with Tony Calderone’s 11th of the year, but the Wolverines would get no closer.
Minnesota comes home for a two game series against Michigan State next weekend at Mariucci Arena.
