MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) – Gopher Hockey sophomore forward Tyler Sheehy has been named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week following Minnesota’s conference split with nationally ranked Ohio State at Mariucci Arena.

A native of Burnsville, Minn., Sheehy led all Big Ten players and tied for the NCAA lead with four goals last week while his five points were also tied for most among conference skaters. The sophomore leads the Gophers with 20 points and nine goals this year while his 11 assists are tied for the team lead.

Sheehy continued his domination of the Buckeyes in last weekend’s split – the forward now has 15 points (nine goals, six assists) in seven games against the Buckeyes. He tallied a pair of goals including the game winner in Friday’s win over the visitors and added a three-point performance (two goals, one assist) on Saturday as the Buckeyes salvaged a split with the Maroon & Gold. Five of Sheehy’s 15 career multi-point games have come against Ohio State while the sophomore has notched a point in six of seven meetings with last weekend’s opponent.

This is the third time Sheehy has been honored by the Big Ten – he was previously named the Big Ten First Star of the Week on Oct. 11, 2016 and Dec. 8, 2015.
