MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) – For the second time this month, Gopher Hockey sophomore Eric Schierhorn has earned Big Ten weekly accolades after picking up Big Ten Third Star of the Week honors on Tuesday.

A native of Anchorage, Alaska, now leads the Big Ten with 15 wins and four shutouts this season after Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Bemidji State at Xcel Energy Center. The defending Big Ten Goaltender of the Year allowed just three goals (two at even-strength) against a pair of nationally ranked opponents and owned a .944 save percentage and a 1.52 GAA over the weekend.

Schierhorn has picked up wins in eight of the last 10 games for the Gophers, allowing two goals or less in seven of those contests. The sophomore has raised his season save percentage to .898 and lowered his season GAA to 2.66. The netminder owns a 15-7-2 record on the year.

His seven career shutouts lead all active Big Ten goalies.

The Maroon & Gold return to Big Ten play this weekend with a two-game series against Penn State at Mariucci Arena. Tickets for the 2016-17 season are available at MyGopherSports.com or by calling 1-800-U-Gopher.
