St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Influenza continues to make the rounds in Minnesota.

A weekly update from the Minnesota Department of Health shows overall flu activity in the state remains classified as widespread. The health department received 23 reports of probable outbreaks in schools and 11 reports of confirmed flu outbreaks in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities throughout Minnesota last week.

The report indicates there were declines in the number of outbreaks reported by schools and the number of flu-related hospitalizations, while flu activity in long-term care facilities was steady and there was an uptick in the percentage of positive results among specimens submitted for lab testing.

So far this year,there have been over 2400 hospitalizations from flu-related complications and two deaths involving children who became ill from influenza
