Hayfield, MN (KROC AM News) - A barn near Hayfield was wiped out by a fire Tuesday night.

Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose says the owner reported the fire around 10:30 PM.

Crews from the Hayfield, Kasson and Stewartville fire departments responded to the blaze that could be seen a mile away. The 80 by 50 foot building was engulfed when the firefighters arrived and it could not be saved. Also destroyed were several vehicles, a truck, dirt bikes, snowmobiles, boat, tractor, dune buggy, ATV, mowers, and numerous other items. There were also 5 hens and 2 roosters in the building.

The owner reported hearing a popping noise before he discovered the fire. The cause is under investigation. The loss is unknown at this time.

The farm is located near the Olmsted County line on State Highway 30 and is owned by Preston Walsh.
