Officials say the fire was first reported about 3:20 a.m. Sunday in a 2-and-a-half-story home on Chicago Avenue.

Assistant Fire Chief Cherie Penn says crews arrived and saw flames shooting from a rear porch, then spreading to the garage and the first two floors.

Penn says within about 15 minutes, a house next door also caught fire.

The Star Tribune reports the person who died was found in the house that first burned. The fire in both houses was extinguished. No one else was hurt.

The Red Cross is assisting four adults and four children displaced by the fire.

The name of the victim was not immediately released. Fire officials say it's the third fire death in Minneapolis in 2015.
