Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Wednesday is the final day on the job for longtime Rochester Assistant City Administrator Gary Neumann.

He began his job as the #2 staff person at City Hall in 1982.

Neumann was the chief staff architect in several major initiatives for the city, including flood control, DMC and the Mayo Civic Center expansion. He often served as the key liaison between the city and state legislature.

His departure will take place less than a year after his former boss Steve Kvenvold retired after serving as city administrator for nearly 40 years. The city has also lost longtime City Attorney Terry Adkins, who retired a few weeks ago. The city will also lose longtime Police Chief Roger Peterson in April, followed by veteran Public Works Director Richard Freese and Fire Chief Greg Martin.

A public reception will be held for Neumann this afternoon at City Hall from 2:00- 4:00.

Gary sat down for an interview several weeks ago and reflected on his career. Check it out here.
