Rochester, MN (KROC-AM-News) - There has not been any official confirmation from the Olmsted County Sheriff's Department, but a Facebook page established to disseminate information about Lukas Wharton was updated by his family Wednesday evening to indicate the 5-year-old rural Byron boy has died from the severe injuries he suffered last week when he was struck by a car.

Lukas was riding in a wagon in front of his family's home in Kalmar Township last Tuesday evening when he was struck and dragged by a car driven by a 69-year-old Mantorville man. Myles Keller was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under in the influence, but was later released pending further investigation of the tragic incident. At the time of the arrest, Olmsted County officials said there were indications he had consumed alcohol before getting behind the wheel.

The injured boy was airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital on Mayo One in very critical condition.

The message below was posted Wednesday evening on the Sending Lukas Our Love Facebook page.
