Rochester,MN (KROC AM News) -  The Rochester School District isn’t the only one going to voters Tuesday seeking approval of a property tax increase.

The Minnesota School Boards Association says voters will approve or reject more than 100 levy requests Tuesday, mostly to cover the costs of building and capital projects. The association says 40 districts are proposing various projects and purchases totaling $1.8 billion. The association says it conducted a survey of districts around the state and found a record 68 of them planned to ask voters for help with building bond or capital project levy requests this year. Another 53 districts are asking for operating levy referenda assistance.

The Rochester proposal seeks approval of a $527 increase in per pupil funding, bringing the local total to $837. The district has said this would add about $15 a month to the property tax bill of a house valued at $200,000.

Voting is scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Here is the ballot question:

The board of Independent School District No. 535 (Rochester), Minnesota has proposed to revoke the School District's existing referendum revenue authorization of $578.38 per pupil that is scheduled to expire after taxes payable in 2016 and to replace that authorization with a new authorization of $836.82 per pupil, subject to an annual increase at the rate of inflation. The proposed referendum revenue authorization would be applicable for ten (10) years unless otherwise revoked or reduced as provided by law.

Shall the existing referendum revenue authorization be revoked and the increase in the revenue proposed by the board of Independent School District No. 535 (Rochester), Minnesota be approved?
