ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Given legislative resistance, Gov. Mark Dayton says he's doubtful that a special session will occur to provide assistance to businesses along Lake Mille Lacs.

Dayton acknowledged Tuesday that his hopes of a relief package aren't panning out. He says he's disappointed by the lack of cooperation by the Legislature to help resorts, charter companies and other businesses deal with the suspension of the walleye fishing season there due to a plummeting fish population.

House and Senate lawmakers held three hearings to assess the problem and possible responses, but legislators have sharply questioned the government's role in and the scope of a response plan.

Dayton says he is frustrated that discussions about emergency help for what is akin to a natural disaster devolved into "a political spectacle."
