BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say a Brooklyn Park police officer's gun discharged during an altercation with a suspect.

Neither person was struck in the incident, which happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, but they were both taken to a hospital for evaluations.

The Hennepin County sheriff's office says in a statement that the officer responded to a complaint about loud music and encountered a lone man with multiple warrants for his arrest. It says the driver assaulted the officer, and the officer's firearm discharged.

After his release from the hospital, the driver was arrested for assaulting the officer.

The sheriff's office is handling the investigation at the request of the Brooklyn Park Police Department.
