Charges – Child’s Feet Were Bound With Duct Tape
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman says the criminal complaint against Pierre Collins outlines a strong circumstantial case against a man accused of murdering his own son.
Freeman, along with Hennepin County Sheriff Rick Stanek, held a news conference Tuesday afternoon to announce that Collins has been charged with second-degree intentional murder for the death of 10-year-old Barway Collins.
Freeman says investigators tracked the boy’s father using cell phone data and surveillance camera videos to figure out his whereabouts on the day Barway vanished, and found that he visited the vicinity of a park along the Mississippi River in Brooklyn Center where the child’s body was recovered on Saturday. The boy’s feet had been bound together with duct tape.
While the complaint does not specify a motive, Freeman noted that Pierre Collins had taken out two life insurance policies on his son and asked about raising the coverage on one of the policies two days before Barway went missing.
It’s expected that the grand jury will be asked to consider first-degree murder charges in the case.
