Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Rochester man who was charged last year for making threatening comments about a prominent local businessman has been found not guilty by reason of mental illness.

An Olmsted County judge has also continued the involuntary commitment of 59-year-old Christopher Caffes.

The commitment order was issued in April after an evaluation found he “suffers from the mental illness of Bipolar Disorder.” The report also noted Caffes “has a history of chemical dependency as well as a traumatic brain injury.”

Court records show the businessman told police Caffes had left “weird messages” on his phone and that he took the threats “very seriously.” Caffes is accused of threatening to attack the businessman with a knife. A knife was found in his backpack when he was arrested.
