Veteran journalist Tom Brokaw shares his cancer story tonight at 9pm on a special edition of NBC's Dateline called "Tom Brokaw: A Lucky Life Interrupted". That story includes his experience at Mayo Clinic in Rochester while undergoing for multiple myeloma, a blood cancer.

In tonight's special, Brokaw, a member of the Mayo Clinic Board of Trustees, interviews his Mayo doctors. Part of his goal is to "raise the level of dialogue between the patient and physician." He says he wants to help others have a kind of comfort level in talking to their doctors, asking the questions that need to be asked.

In 2013, Brokaw spent a couple of days in bed with extreme pain before his wife called for help and had the former NBC Nightly News anchor taken to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. In his latest book "A Lucky Life Interrupted", Brokaw wrote about his experience.
