Red Lake, MN (MNN)  --  Authorities say law enforcement officers were approaching a suspect after a chase, when he tried to get away again by putting his vehicle into reverse and struck a Beltrami County deputy. 20-year-old Nodin Makwa was taken into custody after he was finally stopped.  The chase started when a report came in about a man believed to be armed with a firearm and a sword.  He had reportedly assaulted another person on the Red Lake Reservation.

The injured deputy was air-lifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale for treatment of a serious injury.  He was last reported in stable condition.
